Tour 1886 Malt House with SME on 5/22/18 at 4:00pm

1886 Malt House features state-of-the-art malting technology which supports the production and delivery of the highest quality malt—sourced solely from New York’s finest grain growers and demanded by today’s craft brewers.

Malting barley is one of the fastest-growing sectors of New York’s farm economy. A 2012 NYS law requires that an escalating percentage of NY grown and produced ingredients, including hops and malt, be used by NY breweries and distilleries that carry the “farm” designation. The Malt House has been called a “critical link” in meeting those needs.

Located on the site of Sunoco Ethanol, the 40,000 square foot facility supplies 2,000 tons of malt annually making it one of the largest craft malting facilities in the US. You will see the raw barley as it enters the facility, steep tanks, germination compartments, kilns, QC lab, and the packaging line.
